As part of the program under 'The Human Safety Net', We have been focusing on For Families' component and are working with children and engaging them in activities that help them develop their social, emotional and cognitive intelligence. The program extensively works with parents where workshops are conducted for them as the role of parents in early years is most significant as the provider of 'nurturing care.' The workshops conducted include sensitisation, awareness generation, practical demonstration and problem solving. The content of the workshops is reviewed keeping in mind inputs received during the health camps.
The program is also concentrating on upgrading existing Anganwadi centres. It is spread across 80 Anganwadi centres in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. The aim of the project is to have a widespread impact on each centre ensuring holistic development of the child. This include refurbishment, wall painting, provision of storage space, upgrading kitchen facilities, providing mats, weighing scale, sanitation, utensils, water purifier, etc. Along with upgradation, stimulating and relevant education material is also prepared and shared with the Anganwadi centres. The material should be displayed / stored in a manner that makes it accessible to the children. This would encourage children to develop independence in work, learn to make decisions and choices and learn sharing of material
The activities concentrate on improving regular attendance and reducing dropout rates by executing activities among children that work on their language skills and cognitive development. The project also focuses on improving community participation by implementing workshops for parents and caregivers thereby improving their knowledge on various subjects and addressing issues like poor nutrition, pre-school education etc. The impact howsoever from the project has been increased attendance among children, increased capacities of Anganwadi Workers (AWW), structured learning approach and participation from parents and caregivers.
The program with an aim to lay a strong foundation of nurturing care between the parents and children and benefits about 6000+ beneficiaries in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
Under this project, upgradation of infrastructure will include refurbishment, wall painting, provision of storage space, upgrading kitchen facilities, providing mats, weighing scale, sanitation, utensils, water purifier, etc. Through this project, a set of good quality educational material will be supplied to the Anganwadi centre. This material will aim to address multiple areas of the child's development - Physical Development, Language Development, Socio-Emotional Development and Cognitive Development.
The program will focus on conducting health camps aiming to reach all the mothers and children benefitting from the program. The objective of the camp is to identify key health challenges faced by the women and children and work towards the overall improvement of their health
This project works to support the Anganwadi workers with a trained resource who will guide and structure the learning opportunities for children.
Through the project, the Anganwadi workers would receive training in food safety and hygiene, addressing needs of children at risk of malnutrition and early childhood education.
A concentrated effort will be made to alleviate malnutrition in the Anganwadi centres. An assessment of nutrition status of the children will be done through anthropometric measures. Children who are identified as underweight or undernourished will be tracked and monitored separately. Parents and anganwadi workers will be trained in identifying the needs of these children and addressing nutrition through low cost measures
Parenting workshops are organised in all the centres over a period with an aim to reach out to all the households.
In addition to the parenting workshops, the project team will conduct home visits and door to door interaction with the families. This will give the team a chance to observe parent and child interaction in their home environment and provide individualised inputs and support to the parent.
